I was thinking a lot about communication, specifically otherworldly communication. I don't think I'm wrong when I say that most people, in some form or another, pray. They may do so by talking to deceased loved ones or their god or the universe or whatever, but most of us have some kind of desire to let the other side of this life know what's going on here. And so most of these songs are inspired by that kind of back and forth.

As for recording itself, I'm trying to cut down. I'm trying to do just one collection of songs a year. That seems about right. This one took just about that long because of all sorts of things. But none of the stuff that happened last year made it into these songs. It was almost like I had my head in the clouds.
