For the first time since I started this little endeavor of releasing albums in 2009, I stopped for most of the pandemic, and didn't write or record very much. Every year I've tried to release something, but 2021 and 2022 weren't having it. Writer's block is a tricky thing, but it's even worse when you write and you continually think it's bad. That's what had been happening to me for almost two years. Thirty other songs or fleshed out ideas were discarded to get to the ten posted here.

But I eventually took stock of what I had, both in demos and semi-finished recordings, and found an album in there somewhere. And I knew I had to go through the grind of finishing it, even if only as an exercise to see if I still wanted to do it.

My favorite song here is one I've had for a few years, and that's the title track. It's been kicking around in my head ever since I had the idea to make a traditional country record, which was about five years ago. That didn't pan out. Turns out I didn't have it in me to write ten traditional country songs. In fact, I only had one.

This is more of a primer album, one to get everything going again. Even so, I hope it's halfway decent. That's not a particularly high bar, but it's good enough to get moving on the next thing, whatever that is.

This one has a good cross section of songs. There's a couple of pity party songs, a fighting song, an introspective one, a tune about the problem that writing presents and a smattering of others. I don't break any barriers or molds with this one. This is straight in the vein of the last three I've done. Anyway, it was good to take a break. Now, onward and upward.
