Recorded during the sessions for "Heart and Mind Half Gone." I wanted to see if I could write and record a quick "garage" record: stripped down songs with stripped down arrangements. Not a lot of solos here, and that was intentional.
This album was really an exercise. I wasn't ever going to let it out of the bag because it doesn't feature Summar at all, and it's style is different from our other stuff. But The Double Downbeats thing was always going to be about me putting out songs, no matter who was on them, or what they were, as long as I thought they were decent enough.
I had it on my mp3 player, and I kept listening to it, and, for me, it kept holding up. I realized I was playing it like I'd play an album that I liked. And that's when I figured I'd let it escape. It was mostly recorded in my basement in between the furnace and sump pump running (it was a wet, cold spring).
