I had in mind to do an acoustic album, just vocal and guitar. That's where it started. While I started thinking about it, I also started reading articles on old school recording techniques. Like tape echo. And tape loops. And tape in general.

I got three reel-to-reel tape recorders in various states of disrepair, plugged them into my computer, and pressed record. I made tape loops. I did some tape echo. And I used the decks not so much as the recorder but a pre-amp, an effect, an instrument. There's tape hiss and dodges all throughout these songs, and it's all there on purpose. There's distortion and noise and wrecked up e-bowing. It's a noisy acoustic record. I like that.

These tunes are those finger picking kind of songs, the kind of which I always seemed to have a ton. I put a bunch here to get them out there. Some of 'em have been around forever, like Toledo. Some are new, like Asking Why. I'm particularly proud of this album because I feel like every song really means something to me, and most of them I've had for a while. They've stuck with me, and been stuck in my head many times. That's when you know you've got a good one.
